Deaf Hill Primary School Gets Tidy

Pupils from year Deaf Hill Primary School in Trimdon Station took part in a litter pick to clear rubbish from their school grounds and surrounding area.

This was the first litter pick arranged by East Durham Homes customer involvement team at Deaf Hill Primary School.  The litter pick is designed to make children aware of how they can help keep the area they live in clean and tidy by not dropping litter.  Prior to the litter pick staff from East Durham Homes gave a presentation to all year 5 pupils showing before and after pictures of a previous litter pick and encouraged the children to discuss the problems that litter can cause.

Paul Lonsdale, Headteacher of Deaf Hill Primary School said “I would like to thank East Durham Homes for the recent litter pick.  The children thoroughly enjoyed it and said that it made them feel special because they had such an important job to do.  This type of activity helps to build the children’s respect for the environment.”

Carole Tilley, Customer Involvement Officer for East Durham Homes said “This was the first litter pick we have organised with Deaf Hill Primary School.  The children enjoyed taking part in the event and we hope to arrange more litter picks with the school in the near future.”
