Litter pick encourages tidy pupils
Pupils from Dene House Primary School in Peterlee took part in another litter pick to clear rubbish from the school grounds and surrounding area on the 16 September 2007. This time it was pupils from year 4 who were involved.
East Durham Homes customer involvement team again arranged the litter pick to make children aware of how they can help keep the area they live in clean and tidy by not dropping litter. Prior to the litter pick staff from East Durham Homes gave a presentation to the year 4 pupils showing before and after pictures of a previous litter pick and encouraged the children to discuss the problems that litter can cause. There was also a presentation given by Amanda Fulcher, EDH Tenancy Enforcement Manager who spoke to the pupils about anti social behaviour and gave the children a word search to complete. This was arranged as Dene House Primary School is aiming to achieve an ECO award which as well as environmental issues also looks at anti social behaviour.
The children were kitted out in brand new EDH branded hi-visibility jackets which were kindly donated by one of EDH’s partners Kier Northern. Vicky Robinson, Tenant Liaison Officer from Kier Northern said “The work that EDH does with Schools to encourage the children to be tidy is excellent and we wanted to contribute to that work by donating jackets for the children to wear when carrying out the litter picks”.
Carole Tilley, Customer Involvement Officer for East Durham Homes said “I would like to thank Kier Northern for donating the jackets to us; they will be put to good use on the litter picks and other activities we carry out”.

As part of the scheme the children have been encouraged to design posters to show how they can keep their estate tidy.
