East Durham Homes gets RESPECT
EDH officially signed up to the Government's Respect Standard for Housing Management at the Annual General Meeting held on 27 September 2007. The Respect Standard is a code of conduct created by the government to help tackle the causes of bad behaviour. By supporting this initiative EDH are assuring tenants that we will work to the standard and good practice set down in the Respect guidance.
When signing up to the standard Paul Tanney, EDH Chief Executive was joined and supported by Bob Houghton the Anti-Social Behaviour Coordinator for the district-wide Community Safety Partnership and also local residents who have attended focus groups looking at the neighbourhood enforcement service.
Paul Tanney said "Tackling Anti Social Behaviour is a major priority for East Durham Homes and we now have our own centralised enforcement team who investigate complaints and take appropriate action. We also work closely with our partners in the Community Safety Partnership to reduce crime and the fear of crime on estates."
He added "East Durham Homes are strongly committed to a twin-track approach, as promoted and encouraged in the Respect Standard to help tenants change behaviour and sustain their tenancy. However, if a tenant refuses to change and continues to cause nuisance and anti-social behaviour or harass neighbours then we will take enforcement action to prevent this nuisance and ultimately evict the tenants concerned".
Tenants who have attended the focus groups in relation to how we tackle anti social behaviour have expressed an interest in showing continued commitment to this process. Should any other tenants wish to be involved in this process then they should contact Amanda Fulcher our neighbourhood enforcement manager on 0800 032 0835.
