Connexions
Connexions is a service for young people offering advice and guidance on a range of topics. Personal advisors work in schools, colleges, Connexions centres and many other places where young people go to provide confidential and practical help.
Connexions can help to:
- Make decisions about option choices
- Make progress in school
- Find and use information
- Find a course, job or training
- Get Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

East DurhamYouth in Action
Youth in Action provides a range of learning activities to help young people at school. They provide informal education and learning to 13-25 year olds throughout the area.
The programmes are flexible and incorporate computer skills, job search, help writing your CV, outdoor activities, sports, and art.
Youth in Action has two bases:
- White Lea Farm, Easington – the main activity base.
- Horden – main computer training and administration base.

County Durham Positive Futures
This is a joint partnership between Sport England, Youth Justice Board, Home Office and the Football Foundation.
The aim is to use sport to reduce anti-social behaviour, crime, and drug use amongst 10 –16 year olds within local neighbourhoods through the use of education and training programmes

Empower- u
Empower-u is a mentoring project offering one-to-one support for young people aged 10 – 17. Referrals can be from other agencies or self-referrals.
The project gives volunteers an opportunity to act as companions and positive role models.

Barnardos
The service aims to safeguard and promote young carers welfare and that of their families in Easington and Derwentside. They aim to make a positive difference in young peoples lives primarily, their emotional wellbeing.
They work with young people eighteen and under providing full and comprehensive assessments, emotional support and small group work.
They facilitate opportunities to participate in social and leisure activities.

Easington Young people’s Centre
This centre is designed as a base for various agencies and also as a place to which young people can come to meet their worker, make use of facilities and work towards qualifications.

Seaham Youth Centre
Seaham Youth Centre hold the following activities:
- Monday - General youth session. Activity based with young peoples option to participate in formal education
- Tuesday - Introduction to formal education.
- Wednesday - Disability group (SANDS)
- Thursday - Music night
- Friday - Junior group
All programmes subject to change due to workers delivering activities etc that young people have identified. A six week programme is delivered with staff and young people.
Seaham Youth Initiative – hold information drop-ins are tailored around young people’s issues. They are very informal and the young people can have one to ones with workers.
The team work in all areas of Seaham engaging with young people who live or socialise in the Deneside area of Seaham and hold informal education with programmed indoor and outdoor activities.

Educational welfare
Education Welfare Officers assist families in solving issues concerning school attendance. The Education Welfare Service works in a multi-agency setting and provides an invaluable link between young people, parents, schools, and relevant agencies.
