What are the dangers of carbon monoxide

Carbon monoxide doesn't just affect gas appliances. Solid-fuel appliances are just as dangerous if not looked after properly.
Every year some 30 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by gas and solid-fuel appliances and flues that have not been properly fitted or maintained. When gas does not burn properly, poisonous carbon monoxide is produced.
You can't see it. You can't taste it. You can't even smell it.
Carbon monoxide can kill without warning in just a matter of hours. Even low levels of this poisonous gas can cause brain damage or death. You are most at risk when you are asleep.
What are the danger signs?
-
Yellow or brown staining/soot deposits on or around appliances
-
Pilot light that often blows out
-
Increased condensation inside windows.

Yellow flame rather than blue.
