Types of tenancies
East Durham Homes has two types of tenancies - introductory and secure.
Introductory tenancy
All new customers will be on a probationary period for twelve months. If, after that time, no conditions have been broken, then the tenancy automatically becomes a secure tenancy. A secure tenancy will entitle you to more rights which are set out in the secure tenancy agreement.
Introductory tenants have some rights while in their property but not the same rights as secure tenants.
For further information see the link below to view the introductory tenancy agreement.
Secure tenancy
Once the twelve month probationary period has been met then the tenancy becomes secure. A secure tenancy will entitle you to more rights which are set out in the secure tenancy agreement.
Most council tenancies are ‘secure tenancies’. This means we can only end your tenancy if we get a court order. There are strict rules in the housing acts that control the circumstances in which the court will grant this type of order.
