Temporary accommodation service

East Durham Homes can provide temporary accommodation while the council is considering your homeless application or while you are waiting for a suitable home.

What is temporary accommodation?

It is comfortable and secure accommodation for people who are homeless and need somewhere to live short term or in an emergency.

The accommodation is decorated and furnished with the basics, such as a sofa, beds, wardrobes, table and chairs, cooker, fridge, plates and cutlery.

Bedding is available on request for a small charge. We can also provide a ‘starter pack’ of essential food and toiletries.

All properties are on a bus route and are easily accessible by car.

How long can I stay?

You can stay in our temporary accommodation only until the council has assessed your homeless application.

Do I have to pay for my stay?

Yes, there is a daily charge for your stay. You may qualify for housing benefit to contribute towards this cost.
