How can you get involved and have your say?
The views of customers are very important to the stock option appraisal process. We want to be sure that the council fully understands your views on the future management, financing and ownership of your home when they make decisions about council housing. We want to know your views on the improvements that have been made to your home so far and what you think is left to do. How do you see your neighbourhood in the future and what type of housing services do you want to receive?
The council has already started to consult with the Housing Partnership and our Leaseholder Group. The council has also established a Customer Working Group to bring together tenants and leaseholders from across Durham City, Easington and Wear Valley. The Customer Working Group is currently working on:
- Setting some clear goals for the stock option appraisal project – from a customer’s point of view
- Advising the council on the best way to talk to tenants and leaseholders and gather their views
- The appointment of an Independent Tenant Advisor (ITA). An ITA will provide tenants and leaseholders with impartial advice, information and support throughout the option appraisal and make sure your views inform the council’s decisions. There will be more information on the appointment of an ITA soon.
You can read the terms of reference of the Customer Working Group and minutes of the group’s meetings here:
Stakeholder Steering Group
The council has also established a Stakeholder Steering Group to make sure that the option appraisal is run properly. The Stakeholder Steering Group brings together representatives of the groups that are directly affected by the option appraisal. The Stakeholder Steering Group includes:
- Three Councillor representatives
- Three staff representatives (from Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes and East Durham Homes)
- All members of the Customer Working Group.
