Aids and adaptations
We can adapt your home to help you or someone who lives with you to stay and live independently in your home.
We want you to enjoy your home in comfort, so aids and adaptations may help.
What is the aids and adaptations service?
This service aims to help you stay in your home by adapting it to meet your needs. For example, you may have difficulty:
-
walking or climbing stairs
-
bathing or using the toilet
-
getting in and out of your home.
I think an adaptation will help me – how do I get it?
This depends on what kind of adaptation you need. If you need small, simple (minor) adaptations, like stair rails, grab rails and lever taps, you can ask us for these directly. An occupational therapist will probably not need to assess your needs for these small adaptations.
Getting large or complicated (major) adaptations
If you think your home needs something like a ramp, a stair lift or a level-access shower, an occupational therapist will probably need to visit you at home to assess your needs. The occupational therapist will know how your illness or disability may affect your daily life and will be able to recommend the right adaptations for your home.
